What Are Veneers?
Veneers are thin “caps” which are cemented to your existing tooth to improve its appearance. To apply a veneer, we first need to remove a small amount of your existing tooth enamel. We probably only need to file off about one millimeter. After the tooth is prepped, we apply a light-sensitive resin and harden it with a special curing light to secure the veneer. Once the cap is set, we polish and make any final adjustments.
The Benefits of Veneers
These small caps are durable and stain-resistant. It is nearly impossible to tell the difference between a veneer and a natural tooth. We use high-quality materials that reflect light the way that natural teeth do.
Veneers are ideal for fixing:
- Twisted teeth
- The position of a tooth
- A chipped tooth
- Small gaps
- The shape of a tooth
- The size of a tooth
- The color of a tooth
It takes several dental appointments to complete a set of veneers, and we may need to wait a few weeks while your customized caps are created at a lab.
Caring for Your New Teeth
When you finally head home with your veneers, you may notice that your teeth are particularly sensitive to hot and cold. This is because of the enamel removal. The feeling should subside within a few days. We will want to see you back at the office about one week later for a quick check-up.
To care for your new teeth, simply brush and floss like you always have. Make sure to use a non-abrasive, fluoride toothpaste. If you grind your teeth at night, let your Denver cosmetic dentist know. We may need to get you a nighttime mouth guard to protect your new smile.
